This one-day interactive programme has been developed to explain the context and principles of open disclosure, explore tools and techniques to effectively implement open disclosure and allow participants to practice key skills needed to implement open disclosure effectively though case scenarios and role play.

The programme has been designed to cover:

• The driving forces both nationally and internationally for open disclosure and Duty of Candour

• Explore the barriers and myths surrounding open disclosure

• Demonstrate the benefits of open disclosure

• Outline the principles of ‘Being Open’

• The practicalities of detecting triggers for open disclosures

• The practical implementation of Open Disclosure (the who what, where and when

• The key communication skills involved in holding an open disclosure discussion.

All programme content is evidence based and has been designed by healthcare experts and combines evidence-based best practice with thought-provoking practical exercises.  The programme is supported by an online App (CLS OPEN) and resource website (CLS Projects) which provides participants with a suite of supporting information and resources.

The Programme is aimed at professionals and managers who are leading open disclosure discussions and focuses on strengthening and enhancing existing skills and knowledge. It is typically delivered in a one-day workshop format.
